Australia is moving to cement further ties with Tuvalu, Foreign Minister Penny Wong announcing new funding of $110 million following last year's historic Falepili Union.

Under the agreement, Australia will offer permanent residency to up to 280 people from Tuvalu every year.

The security pact also means Tuvalu would mutually agree to any third-party security or defence arrangements with Australia.
